Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Adam Oates will serve as the guest of honour for the 11th annual Prince Albert Kinsmen/Raiders Sportsman Dinner on Friday, Oct. 26 at the Art Hauser Centre’s Ches Leach Lounge.
The evening also will see bullfighter Jesse Byrne honoured with the Male Athlete of the Year award, stock car driver Shantel Kalika receive the female Athlete of the Year accolade and the Sportsman of the Year trophy go to the Project Triple Play committee.
Oates was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012 after putting 1,420 points in 1,337 National Hockey League games over the course of 19 seasons.
He also served as the head coach of the Washington Capitals for two seasons earlier this decade.
Byrne, who grew up east of Prince Albert, has been plying his trade for the last few years as a bullfighter on many of rodeo’s top circuits, including the Professional Bull Riders tour.
Kalika has enjoyed a stellar season at the Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, as she currently leads the Sportsman Division ahead of this weekend’s season finale.
She also made her debut in NASCAR’s Pinty’s Series this summer at events in Saskatoon and Edmonton.
Ian Litzenberger and Kalen Kovitch will be accepting the Sportsman of the Year award on behalf of Project Triple Play, which was put together to help renovate the diamonds at Prime Minister’s Park ahead of the 2018 Junior Men’s Softball World Championship.
Proceeds from the evening, which will include a live and silent auction, will go towards the Prince Albert Raiders Education Fund and “Our Community’s Greatest Need” through the Kinsmen Club of Prince Albert.
