Canadian country music star Charlie Major is coming to Prince Albert as the main attraction of a revamped Prince Albert Exhibition.

Major will hit the stage on Saturday, Aug. 3 as the headline act for the Saturday Night Grandstand Show. PAEX president Robbie Ross said they’re excited to have a big country music act in for the show, and the feeling is mutual.

“He says this is one of his favourite places to perform,” Ross said when asked about Major coming to Prince Albert. “He’s got a very large following here, so he’s really looking forward to it, as are we.”

Major won three straight Juno Awards in the mid-‘90s, all for Country Male Vocalist of the Year. He was also named the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Male Artist of the Year on three occasions, and became the first Canadian artist in history to have six number one hits on a debut album.

The announcement is part of the exhibition board’s plan to have attractions at the main grandstand for three days instead of just one day. Ross said that was a common suggestion when they asked visitors for ways to improve the Exhibition, and the board is eager to see how it works out.

“We’ve decided to go real big with it,” Ross said. “It’s very exciting. We’ll have something big for people to look forward to. Almost every day there will be something here for people.”

Major’s show begins at 8:30 p.m. with Rod Gjerde opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include gate admission.

The 2019 Prince Albert Exhibition opens with the parade on Monday, July 29 and continues until Aug. 3.
