Northeastern Huskies captain and Prince Albert product Brooke Hobson will have a chance to finish off her college hockey career on a high note.
Hobson and her team advanced to Saturday’s NCAA Frozen Four final with a dramatic 3-2 overtime triumph over the fifth-seeded Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Skylar Fontaine scored the game-winning goal with 26 seconds left in the extra frame for the top-ranked Huskies, who are on an 18-game winning streak.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes but started their comeback early in the third period with goals by Maureen Murphy and Katy Knoll.
Fontaine led the way for the Huskies with a goal and an assist, while Hobson earned a secondary assist on Murphy’s goal and Aerin Frankel stopped 26 shots.
Mannon McMahon and Taylor Anderson replied for the Bulldogs, who were looking to win their sixth national title and their first since 2010.
Emma Soderberg made 44 saves in a losing effort.
The Huskies will face either the Wisconsin Badgers in Saturday’s final, which will get underway at 5:30 p.m.
The second-seeded Badgers, who are the defending national champions and have won the tournament five times, defeated the third-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes 4-2 in Thursday’s other semifinal.
