Helm signs with Nipawin Hawks

Lucas Punkari/Daily Herald Forward Gage Helm moves into the offensive zone for the Prince Albert Mintos during their pre-season game against the Tisdale Trojans at the Art Hauser Centre last fall.

Gage Helm will be making the jump up to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League next season.

The 17-year-old forward from Shellbrook signed a contract with the Nipawin Hawks on Monday and will be joining the club on a full-time basis when the 2021-22 campaign gets underway.

Helm spent the last two seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan Male Under-18 AAA Hockey League and was an assistant captain for the club during the shortened 2020-21 season.

He had 25 points in 52 regular season games for the club and had two points in three playoffs games in 2020, in addition to posting three points in four contests at the 2020 Mac’s AAA Hockey Tournament in Calgary.

The Hawks have been one of the top teams in the SJHL over the last few years, with their best campaign coming in 2018 as they captured their first Canalta Cup since 1990.
