Prince Albert police have arrested and charged five suspected impaired drivers since Thursday.
The first of the five arrests took place during a busy Thursday, when the police service responded to 157 calls during a 24 hour period, arresting 32 people. Of those, 20 were for being intoxicated in a public place.
Just after 6 p.m. on March 29, officers responded to the Cornerstone area for a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and pulled it over on 15 Street East. The driver was transported to the police station to provide breath samples.
He was charged with impaired driving and exceeding 0.08. The 31-year-old from P.A. was released and is due in court on May 2.
The next arrest took place the next evening. Friday, just before 10 p.m., while on routine patrol, officers pulled over a vehicle in the 1200 Block of Second Avenue West. Officers arrested the male driver for driving impaired. A 20-year-old from Shellbrook has been charged with impaired driving and exceeding 0.08. He is due in court on May 1.
The impaired driving arrests continued Saturday evening. At 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of 15 Street East and 15 Avenue East for a collision. Officers approached the male driver of the vehicle deemed responsible for the incident. He failed a roadside screening test, and was arrested.
The 65-year-old from P.A. has been charged with impaired driving and exceeding 0.08. He is due in court on May 1. No one was physically injured in the collision.
The other two arrests took place on April 1.
The first was at 4 a.m. On routine patrol, officers saw a vehicle driving in the 1300 Block of 22nd Street East at a high rate of speed with no lights on. A 23-year-old man from Southend has been charged with impaired driving, exceeding 0.08 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He’s due in court on April 19.
Later that morning, at 11:30 a.m., police saw a van speeding in the 600 Block of 28 Street East. The 39-year-old from Prince Albert was charged with impaired driving, exceeding 0.08 and breaching a court order. They are due in court on May 1.
Alcohol didn’t just lead to impaired driving charges. Over the course of the weekend, the police responded to 174 calls for service, including 24 for intoxicated people and 20 for
disturbances.
