Dates set for quarter-final series between Bears and Hounds

The Prince Albert Northern Bears and Notre Dame Hounds now know what lies ahead of them in their best-of-five Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League quarter-final series.

The two sides will square off in Wilcox on Thursday, March 7, with the second matchup in the series being held at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m.

That game will mark the third and final time that the Bears will be wearing their Humboldt Broncos “We Play for Them” tribute jerseys.

Following the contest, the jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Mental Assistance Fund.

The Bears will host the third game of the series at the Art Hauser Centre on Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m.

If needed a fourth game would be held in Wilcox on Wednesday, March 13, while a fifth and deciding contest would be held at the Art Hauser Centre on Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m.

The Bears earned home ice advanced for the series as a result of finishing in fourth in the regular season standings with a 17-9-4 record.

The Hounds earned the fifth seed after they posted a 12-13-3 mark during the campaign.

The two sides split the regular season series at two wins apiece and met up in the semifinal round last year, which the Bears won in four games.

The other quarter-final matchups will see the Regina Rebels battle the Melville Prairie Fire and the Swift Current Wildcats will take on the Battlefords Sharks.

The 27-1 Saskatoon Stars earned a bye to the semifinals after winning the regular season title, while the 1-27 Weyburn Gold Wings missed out on the playoffs for the second straight year.
