Child, 5, injured in Lac La Ronge shooting

Home shot at multiple times, five-year-old suffering from serious, non-life-threatening injuries

Police are investigating after a five-year-old was struck in a shooting on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

According to an RCMP media release, at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, the RCMP were called to a report of a gun being fired at a home on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. An initial investigation has revealed that the home was shot at multiple times.

The suspects fled from the area before police arrived.

One of the bullets struck a five-year-old who was inside at the time of the incident. The injuries were describe as serious but not life-threatening. While other occupants were home at the time of the shooting, no other injuries have been reported.

Police contained the scene when they arrived and provided first aid before transporting the child to the hospital.

The RCMP general investigation section and forensic identification from Prince Albert are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
