Californian old-time country band makes first trip to Alberta and Saskatchewan
San Francisco country music band the Vivants touched down on prairie soil for the first time this week, and so far the experience has been “pretty awesome.”
“We’re going 50 kilometres per hour on a dirt road, which is kind of novel for an American,” said bass and clarinet player James Touzel as the Vivants traversed the Alberta badlands in a rented van on their way from Calgary to Saskatoon.
The Vivants — Touzel; lead vocalist, guitar, banjo and ukulele player Emily Bonn; fiddler Clare Armenante and accordionist Kalei Yamanoha— will be making their debut performance in Prince Albert at the Rock Trout Café on Thursday night.
The group is currently on a brief, four-shows-in-four-nights Western Canadian tour, which begins Wednesday night in Saskatoon and wraps up back in Calgary on Saturday.
