Bridge construction to start Sunday

Residents heading to and from the lakes this weekend may want to work a little extra time into their schedule.

Starting Sunday, there will be closures on Second Avenue West and on the Diefenbaker Bridge as the city continues with its summer road works projects.

Both northbound and southbound lanes on the bridge will remain open during the day, but between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., lanes will be restricted and wide loads not permitted. The city is milling and repaving the bridge. The delays are expected to last six evenings. Two-way traffic will continue to be accommodated during the construction.

Sunday evening at 7 p.m. will also mark the beginning of a few days of lane closures along Second Avenue West between 15th and 17th Streets. The southbound lanes will be closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for sewer cleaning work. That project is anticipated to be finished by July 13.

Work is also continuing this week on the south parking lot at the Art Hauser Centre. The recycling centre has also been removed. The other recycling centres at the East End Community Club, Gateway Mall, parking lot between the Union Centre and Legion and the centre east of the Municipal Service Centre remains open.

The north parking lot and Gary Anderson Way at the Art Hauser Centre remain open. The BMX and Skateboard park is accessible from the Rotary Trail.

Full details of all road restrictions can be found on the city website.
