The man accused of second-degree murder in the March death of a 21-month-old will return to court on April 24.

Kelvin McCallum made a brief appearance by video Wednesday morning in provincial court.

His lawyer indicated that they were still waiting on receiving disclosure from the Crown.

The case was adjourned to April 24 at 10 a.m. for defence election and plea, where the accused determines how he wants his trial to go ahead (judge alone or judge and jury) or pleads not guilty.

From there, McCallum will have a bail hearing at the Court of Queen’s Bench.

His charges stem from a March 20 incident where a 21-month-old was found unconscious at a downtown apartment building. The child later died in the hospital.

An autopsy was conducted on March 21 and the death ruled a homicide.
