Coun. Terra Lennox-Zepp has announced that she will not seek another term in the upcoming municipal election.

Lennox-Zepp, a lawyer in Prince Albert and the current City Councillor for Ward 2, said after eight years representing her ward, she was stepping down for personal reasons.

“Sitting on city council is not a life sentence. You don’t have to stay forever, and so I feel that I’ve put in the work and achieved some goals here and that I am not seeking further election,” Lennox-Zepp said in an interview afterward Tuesday’s executive committee meeting.

Lennox-Zepp said she’s proud of her time on council. She said it allowed her to give some positive input into the policy of the community.

“I was concerned about a transparency issue with the proposed sale of the Margo Fournier Centre name, also to increase our long-term planning, increase transparency and accountability so l joined the race and I’m proud to say that I’ve raised those two topics many many times in in these Chambers, and there is much work into the future to be done on these topics,” said Lennox-Zepp.

Lennox-Zepp was first elected in 2016 when she defeated incumbent Rick Orr to represent Ward 2 and was re-elected in 2020 over challengers Dana Dirks, Devin Gorder, and Kim Conarroe.

Prince Albert teacher Troy Parenteau has announced plans to run in Ward 2. Parenteau previously ran as the NDP candidate in Prince Albert Carlton during the 2020 provincial election. He also sought the nomination for the 2024 provincial election, but lost to nurse Carolyn Brost Strom.

Parenteau is the only candidate running in the ward so far.

The nomination period for fall elections begins September 13 and closes at 4:00 pm on October 9. Election day is November 13.
