A man police say is from St. Louis, Sask. is accused of abducting an 8-year-old girl from a Prince Albert playground on July 4.
The girl was located safe at 8:40 p.m. She had been playing at the Vickers School playground between 3 and 3:30 p.m. when she went missing. A man with long shaggy black hair was seen on surveillance footage entering the playground alone, and hanging around for about 15 minutes.
She left the playground, followed by the suspect. He talked to her against the school wall, then grabbed her and placed her into the back seat of his car, a black 4-door Chrystler Neon with a rear spoiler. He then drove away from the school, heading north on Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
Police sent out a news release at about 10:15 p.m. stating that they were looking for Jarrod John Charles, 19, in connection with the abduction. About an hour later, they sent a second press release indicating they had arrested Charles.
This isn’t the first time Charles has been accused of child abduction. In September 2016 he was charged in connection with taking two boys under the age of 14 from La Ronge. The charges were stayed, but Charles was ordered to stay away from children under the age of 16.
