The body of a missing Hague man has been found in Weyakwin Lake, nearly seven months after he was reported missing.

Members of the Lloydminster Rescue Squad discovered the body of Matthew Hamm during a search on Wednesday, May 12. Hamm was reported missing by his family on Sept. 23, 2020 after he never returned from a fishing trip. Last March, the family offered a $100,000 for his safe return.

Hamm’s identity was confirmed via autopsy by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Hamm family and friends during this difficult time,” read a post on the Lloydminster Rescue Squad Facebook page. “We would like to thank all agencies, family, and friends involved, for all the search efforts, hospitality and kindness during the past seven months.”

The Lloydminster Rescue Squad was one of multiple organizations that took part in the search for Hamm since his disappearance. Others include the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Search and Rescue Underwater Recovery Team, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, the La Ronge Canadian Rangers, the Hutterite Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART), and conservation officers from the Government of Saskatchewan.
