The Reel Rave International Film Festival hits the big screen again this September with six films ready for viewing at Twin Pine Cinema in Waskesiu from Sept. 6-8.

The festival is an annual event, and celebrates its 20th year this fall. Festival spokesman Robert Hawkins said they’re confident audiences will enjoy this year’s lineup.

“We’re pretty much prepared,” Hawkins said. “We have our six films selected and the theatre is (prepared) and we’ve been selling tickets, so we’ll be all ready.”

Hawkins said they are showing four films with an international scope, plus two with a focus on First Nations culture. The list includes British comedy ‘Wicked Little Letters’, Canadian-Polish war drama ‘Irena’s Vow’, American comedy-drama ‘Thelma’, Canadian drama ‘Café Daughter’, documentary ‘Singing Back the Buffalo’, and Japanese drama ‘Perfect Days’, which was directed by Wim Wenders and nominated for Best International Feature at the last Academy Awards.

Hawkins said they try and get as much variety as possible.

“We’ve got some really good films this year,” Hawkins said. “We’ve got one that was nominated for an academy award directed by a German new-wave director, Wim Wenders, and we’ve got an English … comedy about a lady who received poisoned pen letters and blames it on her neighbour, and we’ve got another comedy about an old lady who’s scammed by somebody claiming to be her grandson and when she discovers that she’s been scammed, she sets out to find the person who scammed her, and we’ve got a film about a woman who is a house maid in the home of a  commander of a concentration camp in Poland during the war, and she hides Jews in the basement of his house, which is very dangerous, so we’ve got something for everybody.”

The Reel Rave International Film Festival is a non-profit festival that raises money for the Waskesiu Recreation Association and their ongoing projects.

Hawkins said they’re expecting a strong turnout.

“We expect to sell at least as many seats as we sold last year, and possibly more,” he said. “Last year we reached 1,100 seats, and this year we hope to at least achieve 1,100, and possibly 1,200 or 1,300. With 250 seats in the large theatre, and 200 seats in the small theatre, we can easily accommodate about 2,000 people, so we have lots of room.”

Tickets are available individually for $15 each, with a pack of three available for $40. All films will be shown twice over the weekend.
