P.A.’s Team Rindal makes first appearance at senior provincial curling tournament

Prince Albert skip Bryan Rindal said competing in his first-ever senior men’s provincial curling tournament was “pretty much the pinnacle for the year.”

Rindal and his rink — third Cliff Selander, second Angus Hemsworth and lead Chris Bannerman — were in Swift Current this weekend for the provincial championship, and although they finished with a 1-6 record, Rindal said it was a positive experience.

“It was good. We pretty well knew everybody there and all the teams. We’ve been at this game for a long time (and) it’s a small community so you know everybody and you’ve probably played everybody more than a few times along the way,” Rindal said.

“There were provincial champs, there were senior provincial champs, there were guys that have played at the Briar … all eight teams that were there deserved to be there.”

Rindal said that his rink doesn’t compete often and that the provincial tournament was the only time his team played outside of the P.A. this year. He said they plan to practise more next year and attend more out-of-town spiels in order to get used to playing on strange ice. But despite those challenges, Rindal said his team was able to compete at the provincial level.
