Police have released their strategic plan for the next four years, setting out priorities gleaned from consultation with officers and the public.
Going forward, the Prince Albert Police Service will prioritize three areas: maintaining a visible police presence, promoting a healthy community and providing professional service to the city.
Chief Troy Cooper said the plan, released on Tuesday, will guide the service in every area of their operations. Each year, they’ll translate those priorities into more specific action plans for every one of their sections.
“It’s an accountability mechanism,” he said. “It’s a way of identifying things that are important.”
He said the plan drew heavily on consultation with the public, and from internal surveys of senior police staff.
“The strategic plan is what we heard from the community,” he said, “saying this is what our priorities are.”
According to the plan, written mostly in bullet points and featuring extremely colourful graphics, the public laid out four preeminent concerns. They want better communication, “improved and balanced” traffic enforcement, more visibility and an ambitious response to social issues like addiction and homelessness.
