The smell of street food and the spark of adrenaline from the rides that make up the summer fair are returning to Prince Albert in a matter of days.
The Exhibition Association’s event is taking place Tuesday, July 30 to Saturday, August 3 with a variety of activities to enjoy.
The heavy horse pulls are new at the fair this year. They run from 5 to 6 p.m. on August 2 and from noon to 2 p.m. on August 3. You can also enjoy the 4-H Light Horse Show on August 1 and August 2, along with the Western Light Horse Show on August 2 and 3.
General daily admission costs $13 for adults, $10 for seniors (65 years and older) and $7 for children (7 to 12 years old). Kids under six years old get in for free.
However, they do have a couple of days where you can save your money.
Kiddies Day, in which all children can attend for free, is on July 30 at the Main Hall. Musician Donny Parenteau and Magician Roger Boucher are teaming up for entertainment, which includes a martial arts demonstration, a karaoke contest with a special prize and games such as musical chairs and hopscotch.
Family Day is on August 2, when a group of two adults and two children 12 years old and under costs $26.
There are separate prices listed on www.paexhibition.com/fair/admission for both gateway and grandstand admission, as well as advance passes.
The grandstand features accordion players Jordan Rody & Tom Reidhardt, as well as Donny Parenteau on August 1. Taking the stage on August 2 is Cold Shott and Streetheart, and on August 3 is Rod Gjerde and Charlie Major.
As usual, the fair kicks off on Monday evening with an approximately two-hour parade. It starts at 14th Street East from 1st Avenue East, runs down Central Avenue to River Street, turns at 8th Avenue East, ending at the Exhibition grounds.
Attendance for the fair averages at about 40,000, drawing guests for central and northern Saskatchewan.
