A child from the province’s northwest is among the two Saskatchewan residents who were reported deceased from COVID-19 by the province Tuesday.
The resident in the under 19 age group passed away in February but was only added to the totals Tuesday after an investigation was completed into their cause of death. The other death reported Tuesday was a resident in their 70s from the Far North West.
The two deaths were in addition to 189 new cases and 2,515 tests reported Tuesday. An additional 291 people recovered.
The province has now reported 7,417 total cases of variants of concern, including 145 in the North Central Zone.
North Central 2, Prince Albert, had three new COVID cases Tuesday. The city now has 61 active cases.
Saskatchewan’s daily average new case count is 226, or 18.4 per 100,000 population. There are 174 people with COVID-19 in the hospital. Of those, 41 are in the ICU. One North Central resident is in the ICU with COVID and three are receiving inpatient care.
Saskatchewan reported 9,924 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered Monday, including 498 in the North Central. Now, 82 per cent of residents over the age of 60 have received at least one dose of their vaccine. Each of the 60 and up, 70 -79 and 60-69 age groups have exceeded 75 per cent of their population receiving the first dose. One-quarter of residents over the age of 80 have also received a second dose.
Saskatchewan also announced more pharmacies added to its vaccination program Tuesday. Prince Albert was added to the communities with participating pharmacies. A full list is available at the bottom of this article.
Pharmacies are responsible for their own communication and booking of vaccines, following the provincial government’s sequencing rules
Pharmacy vaccines cannot be booked through the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
Prince Albert’s drive-thru vaccination site is set to re-open Friday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
