MLA Report: Prince Albert Carlton

Saskatchewan’s economy continues to show its strength, and our province remains one of the best choices for investing, living, working and raising a family. According to the most recent Statistics Canada data, Saskatchewan saw building construction investments increase by 12.9 per cent from May 2023 to May 2024 (seasonally adjusted).

As we attract more investment from businesses looking to build and expand, this reflects the confidence in our province’s competitive business environment, which promotes innovation and provides investor certainty. This economic growth helps create more jobs in communities across the province and allows our government to invest in the areas that matter most to Saskatchewan people.

Recently, Morningstar DBRS affirmed the province’s AA (low) credit rating and stable outlook. Saskatchewan currently holds the second-highest credit rating among the provinces when all three major rating agencies (Moody’s, Morningstar DBRS, and S&P) are considered. In June 2024, S&P Global Ratings gave Saskatchewan the highest credit rating in the nation.

A strong and growing Saskatchewan allows our government to continue investing in our province’s healthcare system. Our government continues to advance our ambitious Health Human Resources (HHR) Action Plan to recruit, train, incentivize and retain health care professionals. This, in turn, continues to deliver promising results across the province.

It’s another step forward for Saskatchewan communities as more than 330 hard-to-recruit positions have been filled through the Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive of up to $50,000 over three years. Filling these positions will continually help increase capacity in providing health care services in rural and northern communities.

Our government continues to ramp up efforts in expanding and steadily growing the provincial health care workforce to ensure timely and quality care is accessible. Details on health care opportunities, how to access them and more information on the province’s HHR Action Plan are available at saskatchewan.ca/HHR.

The Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project continues to progress well. The hospital will soon feature a heliport, expanded emergency department, larger operating rooms, pediatrics, maternity, NICU, new medical imaging, a First Nations and Métis Cultural space, and a bed capacity increase from 173 to 242. These improvements will better serve Prince Albert and northern Saskatchewan for generations.

Together, we will continue to build a strong and growing Saskatchewan for a brighter future for all.
