Mintos improve to 6-0

A three-point night from captain Chase Friedt-Mohr and a two-goal showing from Gabe Klassen propelled the Prince Albert Mintos to their sixth straight victory to start the 2019-20 Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League season as they won a 6-3 affair against the Saskatoon Blazers on Wednesday night.

The host Blazers held a 3-2 lead early in the second period at the Rod Hamm Memorial Arena, but two goals in a 24-second span from Chase Bertholet and Friedt-Mohr moved the Mintos out in front for good.

Bertholet had a goal and an assist in the triumph, while Ty Bahm dished out a pair of helpers.

Kayden Skumoski and Dawson Springer also scored for the Mintos, who received a 21-save showing from Spencer Welke.

Daylan Wiegel and Carter Stebbings had a goal and assist each for a 4-2 Blazers side that is tied for third in the league standings with the 4-1 Regina Pat Canadians and the 4-3 Swift Current Legionnaires.

The hosts also received a goal from Alec Saretzky, while Brett Mirwald turned aside 22 saves in a losing effort.

Next up for the Mintos, who are tied with the 6-1 Saskatoon Contacts for first place in the 12-team loop, are a pair of home games against the Pat Canadians on Saturday and the Tisdale Trojans on Sunday.

Both contests will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
