The Prince Albert Exhibition Association has finalized plans for the hosting of the 20th Annual Polkafest coming up on Aug. 23-24 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre.
The two day event will start by 4 p.m. on Friday and run till 10 p.m. On Saturday it will start by 8 a.m. and end by 10 p.m.
“This is our 20th Annual Polkafest and we are excited about it. We are bringing artists not just from Saskatchewan but Winnipeg, Manitoba and even Alberta this year,” PAEX Association General Manager Debra Despins said. “We are pretty excited that the Jordan Rody Band is coming to town and they will be our star band. We are hoping to have a great crowd, We are bringing Wes Stubbs Cotton Picker and we are hoping to enjoy a little bit of his music during the Pancake breakfast.”
This year Polkafest will be a two day event unlike the previous ones where it was three. It will kick off on Friday by 4 p.m. with Denis Ficor performing until 6:30 p.m. From 7 p.m to 10 p.m. will be Jordan Jody Band performing.
“We are hoping to see a lot of people come out on Saturday to enjoy the music. We are basically saying, ‘lets polka the day away,’” Despins said. “For young and old, starting at noon we are going to go all the way till 10 p.m.”
Despins said the 20th Annual Polkafest is another great community event that the PAEX will be putting up for the people to come out and enjoy.
“The 20th brings nostalgic feelings and the fact that its bringing people together, its bringing this community together along with people coming from far distances that enjoy doing the Polka. We enjoy putting it on for the people.” she said.
Other artists that will be on hand to perform include Leons Ochs, Dean Bernier and Sylvia Schira.
Tickets are being sold at the PAEx Main office. Youth who are 18 and under are free.
