A party with a little Latin flair is coming to the Legion this weekend.
Prince Albert Salsa, a loose collective of local people who gather to dance socially once a week, is putting on a salsa night and party Saturday.
The group is led by Estelle Hjertaas, who teaches several of the free classes prior to the Wednesday night dances.
The group is presenting the event in partnership with Maxwell Music.
“It’s going to be awesome, Hjertaas said Wednesday after the weekly dance gathering.
“We have amazing catering by Funky Fresh, we’re going to have a bar, awesome music and atmosphere, so it’s tons of fun, even if you’re not dancing.”
As the event is being held at the Legions, all ages can attend, but anyone under the age of 19 must be accompanied by their guardians.
“It can be fun for the whole family,” Hjertaas said.
For the more experienced dancers, Saturday afternoon will feature three workshops with special guest instructors.
From 2 to 3 p.m. Paul White will be teaching a bachata class.
That lesson is for more advanced dancers.
“It will focus on basic things that make you a better dancer,” Hjertaas said. “Paul is from Saskatoon, he’s one of the instructors there (and) he has managed to perform all across the country.”
The second and third workshops will both focus on Kizomba, a dance from Angola.
“It’s an African dance, but the Latin Dance community has adopted it,” Hjertaas said.
The first class will be for absolute beginners, while the second will be for more advanced dancers, or those who just attended the first class.
The instructor is Bek-Kizz, a Kizomba and Semba dancer from Montreal.
“We’re lucky he’s here visiting this week and is willing to teach two classes.”
The classes will cost $20 each, or $50 for all three.
In the evening, before the dancing starts, a basics class will be taught for free.
Admission to the event, which runs from 8:30 p.m. to 2 a.m., is $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

“If people want to have a taste for what a Latin party and what a salsa night is all about, but aren’t really sure they want to try, this is a great opportunity,” Hjertaas said.
“We have experienced dancers from P.A. and Saskatoon, and maybe some coming from Regina, so there are people to dance with if you want to try. You can come and watch, you can come and eat and you can come enjoy the atmosphere.”
