Corrections officers seized roughly $91,550 in contraband and unauthorized items at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary on Friday, Sept. 6.

The list includes methamphetamine, tobacco, and a cell phone charger. Correctional Services Canada (CSC) has notified police and are investigating.

In a press release issued Tuesday, the CSC said it was heightening measures to prevent the spread of contraband in its institutions.

CSC uses a number of tools to prevent the spread of drugs, including ion scanners and drug-detector dogs. The CSC has also setup a telephone tip line for all federal institutions at 1-866-780-3784.
