La Ronge’s Jerry Christiansen is enjoying a strong start to the 2021 golf season.

After finishing in a tie for third at the Scotia Wealth Open in Nipawin earlier this month, Christiansen won his second straight Fountain Tire Men’s Lobstick Open championship on Tuesday at the Waskesiu Golf Course.

Christiansen moved into the tournament lead on Monday after shooting a two-under-par round of 68 and followed that up with a round of 71 to earn a two-shot victory over Phillip Jonas and Shaun Dunphy of Saskatoon.

Prince Albert’s Danny Klughart finished in fourth place, while Brock Ochitwa and Michael Smith of Saskatoon ended up in a tie for fifth with Regina’s Kevin Dietz.

Next up at Waskesiu is the annual Lobstick match play tournament, which got underway on Wednesday morning and runs through Saturday.

Smith and Trent Kachur of Prince Albert are the top two seeds in the 32-man championship flight, while defending champion Tyler Zaba of Regina enters the event as the 10th seed after two days of qualifying rounds.

Prince Albert’s Cliff Selander and Martin Ring, who shared the Senior Men’s Lobstick title with Roger Gilhespy of Chilliwack, B.C. last Thursday, both qualified for the championship flight as the 23rd and 29th seeds respectively.
