Cab driver assault, youth firearm and drug bust among police weekend calls

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) responded to 204 calls for service this weekend, making 22 arrests. Two of them involved the assault of a cab driver and seizing a firearm and drugs from a youth.

Cab driver reports assault after customers didn’t pay

A 39-year-old Prince Albert man has been arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting his cab driver.

At about 4:46 a.m. on Saturday, police went to a home on the 1900 block of 14th Street West after receiving a call from a cab company that two clients refused to pay.

The driver said the man, who was with a woman, assaulted him.

Officers went into the residence and arrested the suspect.

The man was in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday after being charged with assault.

Youth accused of possessing drugs and a firearm

A 16-year-old male appeared in court on Tuesday for possessing drugs and a gun.

Police conducted a traffic stop around 5:23 p.m. on Friday on River Street West at 1st Avenue East when they located the suspect in a cab.

Officers found a revolver handgun, .2 grams of methamphetamine and a hydromorphone pill.

The Prince Albert youth is charged with possession of methamphetamine and hydromorphone, seven firearms-related offences and breach of his youth sentence order to not possess firearms, alcohol or drugs.
