Bus drivers around the province were given some extra love on Monday as part of Education Week.

Bus Driver Appreciation Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 15.

According to a news release from the Government of Saskatchewan, school buses travel about 250,000 kilometres every day or 46 million kilometres in a year.

Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant proclaimed the day 10 years ago, and encourages everyone to take time to recognize the dedication of bus drivers.

“I want to thank all the school bus drivers across the province for their commitment to the safety of the students,” he said.

The province has celebrated Education Week for over 30 years.

This year’s theme is ‘A World of Learning for Every Student,’ which is meant to address each learner’s individual pathway and the important role of teachers.

“Throughout my visits to schools across the province, I have had the opportunity to see educators motivate, challenge and support their students,” said Wyant.

Throughout the week, students are taking part in activities to appreciate students, teachers, volunteers and other staff.
