Bombers pulling ahead in Sherwood Division

The race at the top of the Sherwood Division in the SJHL has seen the Flin Flon Bombers pull ahead slightly on the Melfort Mustangs.

The Bombers have a record of 11-0-1-0 with 23 points as of Oct 23 and the Mustangs are in second place with a record of 9-2-0-0 with 18 points.

The Nipawin Hawks are in third place with a record of 6-5-0-1 with 13 points and the Ice Wolves are in fourth place with a record of 3-8-1-1 with eight points.

The Mustangs closed their week with a 4-3 loss to the Melville Millionaires in Melfort on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 1-1 after the second period.

Ryan Duguay, Leith Olafson and David Rioux scored for Melfort.

Jadon Iyogun had a pair of goals for Melville; Felix Beauchemin and Cale Nachai added the other Millionaires’ goals.

Kristian Coombs made 16 saves for Melfort; Ethan Rau made 34 saves for Melville.

The Mustangs traveled to La Ronge and beat the Ice Wolves 5-4 in a shootout on Friday, Oct. 20.

Duguay scored the winner for Melfort in the three round shootout.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and 3-3 after the second period.

Logan Belton had a pair of goals in regulation for the Mustangs; Hayden Prosofsky and Duguay added the other Melfort goals.

Mason Bueckert, Liam McInnis, Rylan Silzer and Parker Layton scored for the Ice Wolves in regulation.

James Venne made 36 saves for Melfort; Karl Soneff made 35 saves for La Ronge.

Melfort opened their week with a 4-1 win over the Battlefords North Stars in Melfort on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Melfort led 1-0 after the first and second periods.

Prosofsky had a pair of goal for Melfort; Zac Somers and Mathieu Pigeon added the other Mustangs’ goals.

Venne made 29 saves for Melfort; Joey Hawco made 27 saves for the North Stars.

The Mustangs were in Melville to play the Millionaires on Tuesday, Oct. 24, results were not available.

Nipawin closed out their southern swing with a 4-3 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox on Sunday, Oct.

The Hounds led 1-0 after the first period and 3-1 after the second period.

Maguire Ratzlaff had a pair of goals for Nipawin; Henry Smith and Kyla Kalamaras scored the other Hawks’ goals.

Ashton Breyer, Carson Baylis and Cooper Fredericks responded for the Hounds.

Tyson Endall made 28 saves for Nipawin; Johann Tremblay-Kau made 34 saves for Notre Dame.

The Hawks traveled to Estevan and beat the Bruins 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Evan Forrest scored the winner in the three round shootout for Nipawin.

The game was scoreless after the first period and Estevan led 1-0 after the second period.

Joel Mabin scored the Hawks lone regulation time goal on a penalty shot in the third period.

Jack Piper scored the regulation time goal for Estevan.

Cunningham made 41 saves for the Hawks; Jackson Miller made 33 saves for the Bruins.

Nipawin started their southern road swing with a 6-2 loss to the Red Wings in Weyburn on Friday, Oct 20.

The Hawks led 1-0 after the first period and the game was tied 2-2 after the second period.

Landon Pappas and Braxton Buckberger scored for the Hawks.

Max Monette had a pair of goals for Weyburn: Jerome Maharaj, Lucas Jeffreys and Blake Betson added the other Red Wings goals.

Cunningham made 31 saves for Nipawin; Dazza Mitchell made 30 saves for Weyburn.

The Yorkton Terriers are in Melfort to play the Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 27 and the Mustangs are in Yorkton to play the Terriers on Saturday, Oct 28.

The Notre Dame Hounds are in La Ronge to play the Ice Wolves on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28. The Hounds then travel to Nipawin to play the Hawks on Sunday, Oct. 29.

The Melville Millionaires are in La Ronge to play the Ice Wolves on Sunday, Oct. 29.
