Ahtahkakoop RCMP lay second degree murder charge

Ahtahkakoop RCMP have laid a charge of second degree murder after a 51-year-old man was found deceased on June 15.

Police were called to a residence on Ahtahkakoop First Nation at about 3:45 a.m. Tuesday for a complaint of an assault. Officers found an unresponsive man at the home. 51-year-old Jimmy Williams was declared deceased on the scene by EMS. his family has been notified.

Later that day, Tyrell Knife, 24, has been charged with second degree murder. Knife and Williams are known to each other.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes south, Ahtahkakoop RCMP, Prince Albert provincial general investigation section, Prince Albert forensic identification section, Saskatoon Police Dog Service and the coroner’s service.

Knife made his first court appearance on June 16 and has been remanded into custody. His next court date is set for June 25.
