The Prince Albert Aces remain undefeated at the Saskatchewan Softball U16 Provincial Champions after a wild thrilling extra-inning victory on Saturday.

Catcher Carnell Olson’s two-out RBI double in the bottom of the eighth gave the Aces a dramatic 5-4 victory over the Saskatoon Raiders at Prime Ministers Park. The win means the Aces finish first in Pool Green, and will play the winner of Pool White in their first playoff game on Sunday.

The Aces entered the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead, but the Raiders tied things up on a two-out RBI single from LF Georgia Heilman. Prince Albert nearly responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, but Olson was called out in a close call at home plate.

The Raiders looked like they were going to complete the comeback when they scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 4-2 lead.  However, the Aces rallied to tie the game with two RBI groundouts, setting the stage for Olson’s heroics.

The Aces are scheduled to take the field at 9 a.m. for their first playoff game on Sunday. If they win, they earn an automatic trip to the provincial final at 4 p.m. If they loose, they’ll play the winner of the second and third place playoff bracket at 1:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the final.
