Ochapowace Thunder defeat Stanley Mission 4-2 to win the Senators Cup

A new name will be etched upon the Senators Cup this year.

Tournament scoring leader Colton Yellowhorn scored twice in just over a minute to lead the Ochapowace Thunder to their first Senators Cup title, defeating the Stanley Mission River Hawks 4-2 at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday night.

It was a long road to the finals for the Thunder, who began their tournament with a loss to the defending champion Red Pheasant Rebels, sending the team to the losers’ bracket. From there Ochapowace had to fight their way past the Montreal Lake Penguins, Ile-a-la-Crosse Halfsons and Sandy Lake Chiefs to earn a quarterfinal rematch against the Rebels.

This time around the Thunder came out on top, and after toppling the St. Louis Blues in the semis they found themselves facing the River Hawks in the gold-medal game.
