A downtown favourite is re-opening its doors.
On May 31, the Rock Trout Café announced it was opening under new management in the coming weeks.
The eatery had closed in February, as costs and time commitments became too much for the location’s owners, Paul and Susan Luedtke.
They have continued to host private events, including parties and concerts, in the time in between. Several of those events have sold out.
But while the location is opening, it won’t be under the Luedtke’s watch.
Instead, Chef Krishna, the Rock Trout’s head chef, will take over as owner/operator.
The downtown spot is in the process of hiring cooks, waitresses and bartenders.
Krishna, who goes by Kris, is hoping to keep some old favourites on the menu, but also expend the café’s offerings to include a wider range of offerings from a wide variety of cultures.
“I want to see this place be successful. In the downtown area, it was one of the only places we had, and I really want this place to be successful. I will be playing my role,” Kris said.
The reaction to the announcement was swift, and positive.
The Facebook post announcing the opening has been ‘liked’ 266 times. The post has 50 comments, most celebrating the opening, and 189 shares.
“Lots of people have been talking about it,” Susan said. “I think it’s a good sign. People seem pretty excited and pretty happy.”
The reopening was also a source of major buzz for the first major event held since the announcement. Wednesday night was the beginning of the second year of WinesdaYPA, a monthly gathering of food paired with wine. The proceeds go to charity, and are matched by Scotiabank.
