Tyson Dallman is once again a member of the Prince Albert Mintos.
After playing for the team from 2008 to 2011, the 25-year-old will be behind the bench for the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League club this fall as he was hired as an assistant coach last week.
“It’s kind of funny how things can go full circle like that,” Dallman said. “I grew up idolizing the Mintos program and I was fortunate enough to be able to play with them and now be involved as a coach.
“They are one of the best organizations in Western Canada and to be on the other end of things now to help the kids playing with the Mintos have as much fun as I had when I was a member of the team is something I’m looking forward to.”
Following a playing career that saw him suit up for the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans, the British Columbia Hockey League’s West Kelowna Warriors and the Brock Badgers in U Sports, the 25-year-old Dallman returned home and spent the last three seasons coaching with the Prince Albert Pee Wee AA Knights alongside his dad Rod.
“I really didn’t have any set guidelines for what I wanted to do over the next couple of years when it came to coaching, but I wanted to give back to minor hockey once I finished playing and that’s what I did with my dad,” Dallman said.
“We had talked a little bit about moving up the coaching ladder at some point, but then this opportunity came up with the Mintos and these kind of jobs are too few and far between to pass up.”
Dallman will be replacing the departing Victor Corduban on the Mintos coaching staff, which also features new head coach Danton Danielson and returning assistant Bryan Swystun.
“Tyson has a pretty extensive background through his playing days and he has ties to the community, which were both big things that we were looking for,” Danielson said.
“He checked off a lot of the boxes that we had lined up for the position and he looks like a good addition to our team and what we are trying to build here.”
As the team prepares for training camp, which will take place on Aug. 17 and 18, Danielson is looking for someone to join the team to help out with analytics.
“It’s something that I’ve tried to work into my programs in the past,” Danielson said. “I kind of have what I need when it comes to theoretical aspect of it, but it does require some extra manpower and we’re looking for any individuals that would like to commit some time to help us with that.”
