Although he won’t be running for re-election this fall, Prince Albert Carlton MLA Joe Hargrave made it clear he plans to be on the campaign trail.

Hargrove stated that he will always be available to render any support needed to Saskatchewan Party candidates in Prince Albert, especially in his old riding.

Hargrave made the comments during Wednesday’s Prince Albert Carlton nomination meeting.

“We have to stand by what we believe in and we have to do this together,” he told supporters. “If you want to make a difference, you have to get involved.”

Hargrove thanked his family, friends, and constituents for supporting him through eight years as an MLA. He urged those in attendance to rally in support of the new candidate.

A provincial election must be held in Saskatchewan on or before Oct. 28. Currently, the saskatchewan Party has 48 candidates nominated, 28 of which are incumbents.

“l am ready to give four hours a week to support the nominated candidate and move the party forward,” said Hargrave.

Hargrave was first elected MLA for Prince Albert Carlton in the 2016 provincial election. He is one of several Sask. Party MLA’s who will not run for re-election, following the likes of Donna Harpauer, Don McMorris, Dustin Duncan, and Gordon Wyant among others.

He most recently served as Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement, and Minister responsible for the GTH and Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan. He was also chair of the SaskBuilds and Procurement board, and a member of the Crown Investment Corporation board and the cabinet committee on the Lake Diefenbaker Irrigation Expansion Project.

The Saskatchewan Party has nominated Kevin Kasun as its candidate in a contested nomination on Wednesday. He’ll run against nurse Carolyn Brost Strom, who won the NDP nomination in September 2023.
