Thickwood Hills Studio Trail returning for another year to Shell Lake region


For lovers of arts, artists and all, the opportunity to see exciting artworks is here again.
The 2024 Thickwood Hills Studio Trail will be presenting the 23rd Annual self-drive tour of unique studios in Shell Lake area on August 10 and 11 from 10a.m. to 5p.m.
“Richmore Clarke who was one of the founding members for this group is a renowned artist living in the Shell Lake area and she originally visited someone in Ontario and saw arts tours like this decades ago. She got the local artists surrounding the Shell :ake area, one weekend a year we open up our studio to clean it up. Then people drive self guided from studio to studio and you have some guest starting to see this artists working on different things,” said Annette Henbid, CEO of Northern Sky Studio and organizer of the event,
The Thickwood Hills Studio Trail is Saskatchewan’s premier self drive tour and the Blue Moon signs will mark the trail of the studios of the artists/artisans exhibiting this year.
“You can drive through the studios, a kind of self guided tour drive from studio to studio and some of the artists will actually be working on things and you can watch the artist work with fresh air, adventure and a variety of artistic expression,” Henbid said. “There will be a lot of groups and a lot of varieties this year.”
There will be over 18 artists on display and while self-drive tour is going on, the Canteen and Hard Rock Creations will be available with delicious foods for the participants, such as Studio 701- Carina Ong- Scutchings, Skipping Stone Studio – Collen Teague, Spirit Studio – Theresa Fisher, Donna’s Gallery – Donna Muller, Stoney Acres Studio – Karen McMillin to mention a few.
“The boundaries are fairly small and one can drive around, visit the artists within a year within a day,” she added “PA and North Battleford have a high concerntration of self declared artists, hence the description of Shell Lake area being an artist haven.”
To promote the event each year a display is put on for a month at On the Avenue Art Gallery in Prince Albert.
There will also be a draw and multiple purchases is equal to multiple enteries and you stand a chance of winning cash vouchers.
