MLA Report for Prince Albert Northcote

Alana Ross, MLA

Prince Albert has a lot to offer, and I have enjoyed connecting with you all at community events this summer. July was exciting with several new developments for our city and its residents.

Last month, I was delighted to attend the opening of the newly renovated homes at Village Green. Our government, along with the Government of Canada, invested $16 million in this project to support low-income families in Prince Albert. The opening marks the completion of 63 two- and three-bedroom housing units, which have officially welcomed new tenants.

Our government understands the importance of social housing in our communities. That’s why we continue this work to ensure those in need have access to affordable housing. This investment in Village Green will provide safe and affordable homes for families in Prince Albert for generations.

It was also a pleasure to attend the Habitat for Humanity Key Ceremony. Last month, a family in Prince Albert received the keys to their new home, made possible by $65,000 in investments from our government, the Government of Canada, and many volunteer hours from community members.

Since 2009, our partnership with Habitat for Humanity has developed 210 homeownership units in 14 communities across Saskatchewan. Here in Prince Albert, our government has invested $1.42 million in these projects. These initiatives do more than build houses; they strengthen our community and offer a brighter future for families.

Our strong and growing economy makes these investments possible, and Saskatchewan continues to receive positive news. The province ranks third in Canada for housing starts from July 2023 to July 2024. This reflects our thriving economic landscape and commitment to fostering growth and development.

Saskatchewan’s strong performance in housing starts reflects our ongoing commitment to drive economic growth across the province. Combined with record investments in priority areas like health care, this will ensure Saskatchewan remains a destination of choice for living, working and raising a family.

The Prince Albert Victoria Hospital will soon bring expanded services, including a heliport, expanded emergency department, larger operating rooms, pediatrics, maternity, NICU, new medical imaging, a First Nations and Métis Cultural space, and an increased bed capacity from 173 to 242. Once complete, these improvements will enhance health care accessibility for Prince Albert and its surrounding areas.
