The provincial government announced four new deaths and just 47 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday.
One death was in a person over the age of 80 in the north central zone. Other deaths include a North East resident in their 70s, a Saskatoon area patient in their 60s and someone from the south east in their 50s.
There are currently 97 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, of which 15 are in intensive care. North Central has eight inpatients and two ICU patients with COVID-19.
Of the 47 new cases reported Tuesday, three were in the North Central Zone. Prince Albert, known as North Central 2, had a single new case, bringing its active total to 36. Saskatchewan is averaging 70 new COVID-19 cases per day, or 5.7 per 100,000 population. That’s the lowest since November 1, 2020.
There were 95 recoveries reported Tuesday. Seven hundred and twenty-two are considered active.
Saskatchewan reported 239 lineage results for variants of concern Tuesday. The results included new cases of the Alpha (UK), Gamma (Brazilian) and Delta (Indian) variants.
In all, Saskatchewan has reported 11,750 cases of variants of concern, or over one-fifth of all COVID-19 cases in the province since the pandemic began.
Saskatchewan also reported an additional 6,880 doses of the vaccine Tuesday. Of those, 487 were administered in the North Central. The percentage of population over the age of 18 with at least one dose remains at 69 per cent.
Second doses are now available for anyone aged 50 or older or anyone who received their first dose on or before April 15. Second doses will open up for residents aged 45 or older as of Thursday. It will lower to all residents who received a first dose on or before May 15 by Monday, June 21.
