Two years after the former chief of Buckland Fire and Rescue was suddenly let go from his position, both sides have put out written statements thanking each other for their years of service.
According to a SaskNow story from 2017, Jim Miller was terminated after unnamed “allegations” were made against him. Neither side elaborated further.
Late last week Buckland Fire and Rescue released a statement thanking Miller for his years of service.
“ The Buckland Co-operative Volunteer Firefighters would like to thank Jim Miller, his wife Diane, and his family for their contributions to the firefighting department,” the statement said.
“Under Jim’s 21 years of leadership, the department grew to be one of the most respected volunteer firefighting departments in the Province.”
When reached by phone, Miller issued a statement of his own.
“I am glad this settlement is almost over,” he said, “I can get on to the next chapter in my life.”
Miller thanked the “group of people that had the insight and the courage” to found Buckland Fire and Rescue.
“The Mission Statement was to do what they could to help the people in the community and the communities surrounding them,” he said.
“Over almost five decades the department evolved to carry out this mission. Countless people have received emergency aid in one way or another. Many people also from other communities have been helped.”
Miller said that, through mutual aid, the firefighters have helped communities from La Ronge to Saskatoon, from Turner Lake to Hafford. Several communities have aided Buckland in return, the said.
Miller also mentioned the Rope Rescue Team, which hosted the first Drop Zone event for Easter Seals in this area, and was also on call for STARS for the Northern Region.
“I would also like to thank all of the great people that I was able to work with and have met while working with the Buckland Department over the 21 years,” he said.
