Because of you, six brand-new fetal monitors are now in place on the maternal unit at Victoria Hospital.
Wireless fetal monitoring allows expectant mothers to move freely during labour while remaining continuously and safely monitored. Mobility is more than a comfort feature. It can reduce pain, decrease stress, support better labour progression, and help families feel more in control. With waterproof, lightweight transducers and continuous signal transmission, mothers can walk, shower, use birthing tubs or change positions without interruption. This transforms the birthing experience.
For babies, the benefits are just as profound. These monitors provide clear and consistent readings of the fetal heart rate and maternal contractions with advanced signal accuracy. They support monitoring twins and triplets and help care teams identify changes earlier and respond faster. In a unit that sees up to 45 families every week, these capabilities save precious time and protect vulnerable lives.
Tammy Gillis, Manager of Clinical Services for Obstetrics at the Victoria Hospital, sees the difference every day.
“These wireless monitors are amazing. The patient is not tethered to a machine. They can get up, use the bathroom, go in the tub, walk around the unit. It really helps the patient feel that they are the center of the care, not the electronics we use to monitor them.”
For staff, technology means safer workflow and more efficient patient care.
“It improves the experience for the patient, which therefore makes it a much better experience for the staff as well.”
And behind this transformation is a community that cares deeply about mothers and babies.
Tammy shared, “It is nothing short of incredible to realize that you have that community support. People who are willing to give what they have to make our lives, and our patients’ lives, easier. It is very humbling.”
Your generosity is the reason this change is happening. These six monitors are the first step toward the thirty-three monitors our community will need when the new hospital tower opens. You are helping to build a safer, more modern, and more compassionate birthing environment for thousands of families in the years ahead.
Because of you, a new life enters the world with greater safety, dignity and hope. You are shaping the future of maternal care, one heartbeat at a time.
