Yorkton RCMP charged two males with kidnapping with a firearm after a victim was forcefully taken from a residential property in Yorkton.
On Jan. 20, Yorkton RCMP received a report of suspicious activity on 4th Avenue North in Yorkton, SK. Police were told that an individual may have been kidnapped.
Yorkton RCMP immediately responded. Investigation determined a male victim was in a parked vehicle outside a residence on 4th Avenue North in Yorkton. Two males wearing face coverings approached the victim, forced him out of the vehicle, placed him in a separate SUV, and drove away. The males threatened the victim and pointed a firearm at him. The firearm was not discharged.
Shortly after receiving the initial report, Yorkton RCMP located a vehicle matching the SUV’s description on Highway #10, heading towards Melville. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The SUV did not stop; it fled from police. Shortly after, the SUV entered the ditch. The vehicle occupants were arrested at the scene. The victim, who was one of the vehicle occupants, reported non-life-threatening injuries to police. Investigation determined the suspects and victim were known to one another.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located and seized a loaded firearm, a firearm magazine, ammunition, approximately 88 grams of cocaine, approximately 88 grams of methamphetamine, and approximately 16 grams of fentanyl.
As a result of continued investigation, 24-year-old Preston Carroll and 20-year-old Dante Douglas, both from Fort McMurray, AB, are each charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, kidnapping with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, , possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized and possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized.
Preston Carroll is additionally charged with the offences of disguised with intent to commit offence, assault, uttering threats against a person and pointing a firearm.
Dante Douglas is additionally charged with the offences of flight from peace officer and dangerous operation of motor vehicle
Preston Carroll and Dante Douglas appeared in Yorkton Provincial Court on Jan. 22.
While the Yorkton RCMP continues to investigate, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Yorkton Forensic Identification Section assisted in this investigation.
