Saskatoon’s Rick Yano wasted no time leaving his mark on the Super Seniors portion of the Sr. Men’s Northern.
The 2025 tournament marked the first time Yano entered the Super Seniors. Yano just turned 75 this year, and was looking forward to competing.
“It’s excellent,” he said. “A lot of these fellas I’ve played with for quite a few years down at Dakota Dunes in town and up at Waskesiu. It’s nice to see everybody again. It’s the comradery. We have a really good time. A lot of jokes going by.”
In between jokes, Yano fired a two-day total of 160 (76-84) to finish two strokes ahead of Blair Gervais (80-82). Yano said the weather conditions made for a tricky day.
“It’s been a long grind with the weather and everything else,” he said. “The course has been in beautiful shape and all the volunteers have done a great job so it’s greatly appreciated. It’s just nice to be out there.
“The water was no problem today. It was the wind, but you play in the wind all the time in Saskatchewan, so we got through it and it all turned out just fine. We had a great bunch of guys to play with and really enjoyed the day.”
Victor Rodych finished third with a two-day total of 164 (83-81). Ron Rivard (169-81-88) and Clint Thierman (170-85-85) rounded out the top five.
