A Prince Albert man is being fined $4,900 after an employee suffered serious injuries in a workplace accident.
Bradley Davidson-Vermette pleaded guilty to violating Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
The accident happened on June 2, 2017 near Wakaw.
“While removing debris from a conveyor belt, the conveyor system was started up causing the worker to fall approximately four metres or 12 feet,” the Saskatchewan government said in a news release, describing the incident.
The employee suffered broken bones in his arm, pelvis and hip and fractures to his ribs and spine.
Last week, Davidson-Vermette was ordered to pay $3,500 and a $1,400 surcharge.
“While everyone is responsible to create and maintain a safe and healthy workplace, employers carry the greatest responsibility because of their authority and control over the worksite,” said the release.
According to the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board, 17 people died in 2017 because of a workplace accident.
