Where I find joy

Ruth Griffiths

“Joy” was the theme for a women’s camp I recently attended at Christopher Lake. Not surprisingly, I returned home relaxed and uplifted.

There were many reasons to be joyful at the weekend gathering:

  • the weather was warm and sunny,
  • the lake was cool and calm,
  • we ate wonderful meals together,
  • we laughed and sang a lot,
  • in small study groups we discussed Bible verses about joy

There were many activities to choose from: swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle board and paddle boat, walking the nature trails, crafts, games, yoga.

I enjoyed the sights and sounds of birds and small animals that surrounded us in the forest. We even had a visit from a black bear!

The highlight of the weekend for me was sharing time with two dozen women from across the province, many of whom I hadt never met before, but all of whom became friends because of our shared interests and experiences.

For me, joy is most frequently experienced in a group … singing together, playing together, working and relaxing together. I am so thankful that Camp Christopher opened its doors to our women’s camp and allowed us to find joy.
