Weldon man arrested after holding youths in Tisdale

A Weldon man has been arrested after an incident in Tisdale on March 12. 

According to RCMP on March 12 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Tisdale RCMP received a report that a man armed with a firearm threatened two youth and stole their vehicle with them still inside.  

Tisdale RCMP officers responded immediately. The report indicated two youth were in a parked vehicle when an adult male entered with a firearm pointed at them. The male drove around the Tisdale area, forcing the youth to remain inside the vehicle. Approximately two hours later, the male let both youth out of the vehicle near Tisdale. No injuries were reported. 

Shortly after receiving the initial report, Tisdale RCMP officers located the stolen vehicle on 101st Avenue in Tisdale. Officers approached the vehicle, located the adult male inside and arrested him without incident. After searching the vehicle, a firearm, knife and face covering were seized. Officers also confirmed that the adult male had warrants from Melfort RCMP and Saskatoon Police Service. 

As a result of this investigation, 44-year-old Gary Hill from Weldon has been charged with one count, robbery with firearm,     one count, kidnapping,   one count, pointing a firearm, one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,  one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm,   one count possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, one count, using firearm in commission of offence,   one count, unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle,       one count, possession of break-in instrument, three counts, fail to comply probation order,   two counts, fail to comply with release order condition and  one count, weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization, 

He has been remanded into custody until his next scheduled appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on March 19. 

The RCMP are not providing any details about the youth victims to be mindful of their privacy and well-being, as well as to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
