Weekend police chase recovers stolen vehicle

Prince Albert police arrested and charged a 27-year-old man after he allegedly fled from officers in a stolen vehicle.

At about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, police tried to stop a white SUV travelling north on 5th Avenue East.

The suspect attempted to flee, travelling at high speeds outside of the city along Highway 3 before the driver lost control and slid into the ditch.

Police found the SUV was stolen from Sturgeon Lake.

The male driver was arrested without incident, as well as his female passenger.

The driver, who is from Prince Albert, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle exceeding $5000, operation of a motor vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, failure to stop for peace officers in an attempt to evade them and breach of a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) responded to 207 calls over the weekend, making 36 arrests.
