We are not closing

A message from the editor and publisher:

Over the past few weeks, there have been several rumours swirling around the community.

There is a lot of speculation that the Daily Herald will soon be closing its doors.

That speculation is entirely false.

With apologies to Mark Twain, the reports of our death are exaggerated.

Our sister paper, the Moose Jaw Times-Herald, is closing. We are saddened by this news. They are our friends and coworkers, who we’ve worked alongside for years.

Anytime a city loses its daily newspaper, it loses an important part of its identity. It loses the talents of people who inform the community about upcoming events, people who keep power in check and who celebrate the achievements of the everyday people who work, live and play there.

Moose Jaw is, sadly, losing that next week, when their daily newspaper publishes its last edition and closes its doors.

We would like to personally thank all the staff of the Moose Jaw Times-Herald, from the reporters, office staff, salespeople and managers to the mailroom staff, drivers and carriers, for all their hard work over the last several years. Your dedication to your craft has not gone unnoticed.

We wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

But in Prince Albert, the daily newspaper is not going anywhere. If any reader, community member or advertising client has been told by any entity that we are closing, then they have been misinformed.

Unfortunately, there are some in this community who would gladly see the Prince Albert Daily Herald come to an end. Some may be propagating these rumours in the hope that it accelerates what they see as our inevitable demise.

We hate to disappoint those people, but the demise they see in our immediate future isn’t there. In the meantime, anyone who knowingly spreads falsehoods or unproven rumours about our business — about our livelihoods — only serves to damage their own credibility in a race to the bottom.

This newspaper is strong, it is successful, and it will continue to be both in the immediate future and in the years to come. We have an amazing team working hard every day to ensure its continued success. Everyone in this building cares about the future of the Herald — from the newsroom, to the sales staff, to the mailroom, drivers and newspaper carriers. We love our jobs, and we are always looking at ways to better serve the community.

We aren’t going anywhere. We’re still your local news source, since 1894.
