Métis Region 3 celebrates Grand Opening
Métis Nation Saskatchewan celebrated the Grand Opening of its new Regional Office, in Ile-a-la-Crosse, Sept. 30.
The opening was held in conjunction with the Region’s a presentation on its project, Sakitawak Indigenous Protected Conservation Area (IPCA).
Sakitawak is one of 37 IPCA’s in Canada, with four of them Métis projects.
Located in the boreal forest of Northern Saskatchewan, “all IPCAs are funded by the Government of Canada and were established to meet climate change targets set out in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change,” quoted from a Saskatchewan Conservation summary.

Bill C-92
Bill C-92, An Act with a goal to keep Indigenous children and youth, First Nations, Métis and Inuit, connected to their families, communities and culture, received Royal Assent in June, making it law in the country.
“Under Bill C-92, Indigenous communities and groups will be free to develop policies and laws based on their particular histories, cultures and circumstances. Free to move at their own pace to implement and enforce these policies,” quoted from a Government of Canada news release dated June 21, 2025.
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) is just beginning the journey to bring this legislation into being within the Band.

Sisters in Spirt
Piwapan Wellness Centre will host the annual Sisters In Spirt Walk on Friday, Oct. 3.
People are invited to meet at the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) Office at 10 a.m. The walk will begin at 11 and Lunch will be served at the Urban Reserve.
Women’s Gala
Piwapan Women’s Centre will host a Women’s Gala at the JRMCC October 10 beginning at 5 p.m.
Men’s Gala
Piwapan Women’s Centre will host a Men’s Gala at the JRMCC October 17 beginning at 5 p.m.
