Three-peat: PA’s Trumier helps Lakeland to third straight CCAA national title

For the third time in as many seasons, the Lakeland College Rustlers are the queens of the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA).

Lakeland defeated the Humber College Hawks in four sets (25-20, 25-27, 25-26 and 25-22) to capture their third consecutive national title in Oshawa, Ontario earlier this month.

One key contributor for Lakeland over the past three seasons has been Seanna Trumier. The St. Mary grad was second on the Rustlers with 17 digs in the championship match.

Trumier says she has enjoyed being part of a team that has had continued success.

“It’s been amazing and there’s nothing more you could ask for. I think that our team was able to put in the work throughout those years to be able to get where we are today. I’m super thankful to be a part of it.”

The Rustlers were in a class of their own during the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season posting a perfect 19-0 record and dropping only a single set during the entire regular season.

“I think that our competitive drive throughout the entire season, no matter who our opponent is, has always been so strong.” Trumier explained. “To be able to show up for every game with that same compete level has been something very special to be a part of that comes from everybody on the team.”

2024-25 is the lone season that Lakeland has posted a perfect record in the ACAC during their three consecutive national championships. The Rustlers had lost one game in each of the past two seasons.

Trumier says the extra experience the Rustlers had gained was a major reason for them reaching the undefeated season.

“I believe it’s just been super important to get all the time in the gym that we can. We’ve grown as a collective group to be able to be better for every game, every season. Just playing together, getting older, being wiser, being smarter as athletes has been super helpful in these last three years.”

Through the season, Trumier appeared at libero for Lakeland. She also appeared in games at

left side for the Rustlers during her college career.

Despite winning three national titles in a row, Trumier says they all stand out for their own reasons.

“I would say that they all have been very unique and different. This third one was very special just to be able to say that we’ve been consistent enough to do it three times in a row. In our last game we faced adversity, our right side attacker rolled her ankle in the second set. We had another player come in and do amazing things so it just speaks to how strong our team was not only with the starting lineup but all of the people involved.”
