Regent Academy continues its tradition of staging original Christmas plays

When Regent Academy puts on a play, every student has a job to do either on stage or behind the scenes.

“Some of the kids are doing media and some are doing singing and some are doing acting, so they’re all involved every year,” performing arts teacher Meghan Mayer said.

“They’re all being taught how to run a play.”

For the past 15 years Mayer has been writing and directing Christmas plays for the students of Regent Academy, the Christian kindergarten to Grade 12 school which receives oversight from Embassy Church.

When Mayer started teaching drama at the school there was no annual Christmas play, so she decided to start writing her own. She said she enjoys watching her students bring her work from the page to the stage.
