Some days stay with a community. December 5th was one of them, because of you.

This year marked the 20th anniversary of Give a Little Life Day, and you rose to the moment in a way that we will remember for years. Together, you raised $858,440 — for your hospital, for your neighbours, for people who will walk through those doors on the hardest days of their lives.

Twenty years ago, you started something remarkable. Give a Little Life Day began with a simple belief: that families here deserved the best possible care, close to home. You embraced that idea, and year after year, you transformed it into one of the most enduring traditions in Prince Albert, a tradition that has strengthened every department in our hospital.

This year, the need felt even greater. Our community is growing and the hospital is busier than ever. And yet your response was exactly what it has always been: you showed up with heart. And yet your response was exactly what it has always been: generous, steady, and full of heart. You filled phone lines. You gave online. You showed up at Mann-Northway with children carrying envelopes of saved coins. You listened to stories, and you made new ones possible.

Because of you, vital equipment will now be placed directly into the hands of care teams across the hospital. Your generosity means surgeons will soon have a mobile point-of-care ultrasound that brings clarity in urgent moments, allowing them to make faster decisions when every second counts. You helped fund a retinal camera for the NICU so premature babies can receive early eye screening and life-changing care close to home. You supported the purchase of a Vein Viewer for pediatrics, reducing fear and painful needle attempts for children. You helped provide a bladder scanner that will ease discomfort and prevent complications for patients across multiple inpatient units. And you contributed to pediatric-capable ECG machines, ensuring children with heart concerns receive faster, clearer diagnoses right here in Prince Albert.

These are not simply pieces of equipment. They are moments of comfort, safety, and hope – moments you made possible. These are acts of compassion that align directly with the Boreal Healthcare Foundation’s mission to enhance healthcare for the people of Prince Albert, central and northern Saskatchewan.

One parent shared it best during the Radiothon: “When our baby was fighting for her life, we didn’t think about donations or equipment. We just hoped everything she needed was there. Knowing this community made that possible — we’ll carry that gratitude forever.”

To every donor, listener, volunteer, and sponsor: thank you. You are the reason this tradition exists. You are the reason it continues. And you are the reason care at Victoria Hospital is stronger today than it was twenty years ago.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to our broadcast partner Pattison Media, to Mann-Northway for hosting and championing this event, and to Gord and Barb Broda, whose matching gift doubled your impact this year.

To our community, thank you; this is your legacy.

You gave life again. And the impact of your generosity will be felt for years to come.

For those who wish to be part of this impact, donations are still being accepted.
