A 17-year-old boy facing charges in connection with a violent sexual assault that occurred on Onion Lake Cree Nation in June is set to appear in provincial court.

The accused faces six charges, including aggravated sexual assault, assault with a weapon, wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an offence, and attempting to obstruct justice. He is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Oct. 15.

RCMP arrested the 17-year-old in Onion Lake at around 5 p.m. on Sept. 29 following an extensive investigation.

The original incident occurred in an Onion Lake residence on June 2, 2018. According to investigators, an armed male suspect broke into the residence between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. that morning and sexually assaulted the lone adult female occupant. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was treated for injuries at Lloydminster Hospital before being released.
